Overview

Institute of Legal Studies has been established at UIET-IV building of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University campus in year 2017. Institute was inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor Shri Ram Naik JI on 05 October 2017 in presence of the former Vice-Chancellor Professor J.V. Vaishampayan.

Now Institute has its own building . New building was inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India  Shri Ram Nath Kovind Ji, then as he was.  He has also been alumni of The Chhatrapati ShahuJi Maharaj University. Institute of Legal Studies has been established to provide higher education in the field of Law in Kanpur Zone. For the first time LL.M.(Master of Laws) 2 years course has been introduced in Chhatrpati Shahuji Maharaj University campus. Intake seats for the LL.M. course is 60 through entrance examination. Institute has well furnished class rooms with departmental library. Institute has its own new building named Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vidhik Addhyayan Sansthan.

 From year 2021 onwords Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University is going to open new course of  B.A.LL.B.(HONS.) Five Years Degree Programme.  B.A.LL.B. (HONS.) course would the new programme which is first time proposed to introduce in Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University campus New Building.

Aim & Objective of the Institute

The prime objective of the Institute of Legal Studies is to cultivate and promote the science of law and to contribute substantially in reforming the administration of justice, so as to meet the socio-economic aspirations and needs of the people through law and its instrumentalities. The Institute has achieved the place of a premier centre of legal studies and in future it will also be national and international level of research centre, in which the lawyers from all branches of the profession, judges, government officials and academicians have been participating.

Future prospective of the Institute of Legal Studies.

  • To cultivate the science of law, and to promote advanced studies and research in law and its administration;
  • To promote the reform of administration of justice and of law and its health/development suitable to the social, economic and other needs of the people;
  • To promote the clarification, simplification and systematization of law;
  • To encourage and conduct investigations in legal and allied fields;
  • To promote the diffusion of the knowledge of law and its administration and principles on which they are based;
  • To promote the improvement of legal education, and to impart instruction in law and allied fields;
  • To publish studies, treatises, books, periodicals, reports and other literature relating to law and allied fields;
  • To cooperate with other societies, institutions and organizations, national and international, in the pursuit of all or any of the above objects;

Legal Aid Clinic

Legal Aid Clinic established in the Institute by the District Legal Service Authority, Kanpur. Mr. Bhavak Singh Paralegal Volunteer is the Incharge of the cell.
